We've been working on developing a waxed canvas and leather backpack for nearly two years, and are excited to release it today. It's been a labor of love, but we were finally able to bring all of the crucial elements together perfectly - craftsmanship, materials and design.
Our backpack has a classic teardrop shape - it's timeless, and brings us back to the bags we grew up wearing to school. The body is made from heavy duty waxed canvas. This material has become our favorite over the last couple years for bags and jackets due to its durability and richness of character. The waxed canvas shows off highs and lows, and creates a much deeper and more textured look than a traditional canvas bag. We put on a zippered front pocket for easy access to the things you'll want to get at more quickly. The beefy brass YKK #10 zipper for the main compartment runs down further on the right side to allow the bag to open further, providing easy loading or unloading of larger items. This zipper stops a little shorter on the left side, where we've added an open-top sleeve.
Horween's famous Chromexcel leather was a natural first choice for the bottom of the bag, providing a stylish accent to the charcoal waxed canvas while increasing durability of the overall design. The leather theme continues on the back side of the bag, where we use Horween Latigo leather for the adjustable shoulder straps. They're secured to the body of the bag with both stitching and solid brass rivets for a clean design. Between the shoulder straps attachments we've subtly hidden the Gustin logo, allowing the bag to have an unbranded and understated look overall. On the inside of the bag there's a large main compartment, with a laptop sleeve (that fits a 15" MacBook) against the back.
Our backpacks are made by a family-run shop in California that has been making bags for longer than most of us have been alive.
