Our new Engineer Jacket gets treated to special edition wools. This style from Japan starts with a great combination of materials - cotton and wool. The cotton lends a usability, while the wool gives it warmth and a rustic feel. The blend is idea. Next comes the herringbone weave. From afar it just helps to blend the dye colors into a cohesive unit of rich color, but get closer and you see the classic v-pattern and texture. All these details set the stage for the true star, indigo dye. Very rare to find in wool fabric, the result are beautiful blues that you truly don't see. The Postal Blue is our hands-down office favorite. The indigo dye gets contrasted by grey giving allowing a vintage metallic, light blue to emerge that truly harkens back to vintage times.
Our Engineer Jacket is an exercise in refinement and turning the crank until we had perfected each element. The first step was dialing in fit. We retain the classic roots of the shape while giving it a solid tailoring. The body is just right - fitted but not tight. The sleeves are clean and not overly wide, enhancing the sharpness of the silhouette. The classic point collar is there and we passed through countless shapes until we landed on the perfect length. The front hem bottoms are gently curved. We kept the classic 4 pocket front that defines this style and really lined up pocket size and placement.
