#472 Japan Loose Slub Selvedge

There are many levers a great selvedge mill can pull to influence the character of raw denim. Japan is one of the few that gets to the level of detail that we find in this new selvedge. The combination of a totally unique feel and slubiness makes this a very special experience. It starts with the weave itself, specifically the tension. This one specifically employs a loose weave. You feel it even before you put them on, right when you pick them up. They have an almost linen like flow to them despite being 100% cotton as the loose weave makes the fabric more pliable. That great sensation is confirmed when you put them on, lending a welcome dose of comfort too an otherwise starchy raw denim start. Next comes a wonderfully textured, long slub yarn. You see this irregularity clearly and running through long swathes of the surface. The loose weave and slub exposes nice contrast from the white weft. A bold pink-red selvedge ID is the perfect finishing touch. This is masterfully subtle and beautiful denim that offers a totally fresh wearing experience.
